Adoption

Adoption is a topic that is dear to my heart. Even though our adoption has been finalized I still keep up to date on trends and important topics in the world of adoption. Our lives have forever been changed through the adoption process. Our adoption story starting with a few days before placement until the present time is recorded on this blog.

Four Years Ago Today…..

Sunday, July 1st, 2012

Imagine going from a family of three to a family of four in less than 30 hours with NO ADVANCED notice.  Well that is what happened to our family four years ago today. (more…)

How we adopted…

Friday, May 4th, 2012

When we started the process of adoption we knew NOTHING, well we knew we wanted to add a child to our family. We knew nothing about the process of adoption or where to start. (more…)

No, I’m the lucky one

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Today I’m writing about something that I have grown so tired of hearing. I am not a super hero, I am not wonderful, and I am not a saint just because I have adopted a child. I hear these words often and they make me groan on the inside, while I smile on the outside. (more…)

The process of adoption is labor

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

One of the comments I really hate hearing when the topic of adoption comes up is “You did it the easy way by skipping labor and delivery?” All I can do is shake my head with disappointment with statements like this. I really think that people who make the statement that adoption is the easy way out need to have their heads examined. It is clear that when they make these kinds of statements that they have no clue as to how rigorous and exhausting the process of adoption can be. (more…)

Things I can’t tell my Daughter

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

When Caleb was little he loved to hear the story of the day he was born. He loved looking at pictures of mommy with him still in her tummy and then pictures of mommy and daddy holding a brand new baby in their arms. He loved to hear the story of how he was our miracle baby. He loved hearing about our thoughts, expectations, almost being born on Aunt Katie’s birthday, and his grandparents traveling for hours in order to be for his arrival.  (more…)

Today is special because…..

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Wow…. it  has been THREE years. I can not believe how quickly time is passing.  Three years ago today, on a telephone call with our family, a judge, an attorney, and a court reporter we were pronounced a LEGAL family. At that time in our hearts we were already a family and had been for 7 months, but in the eyes of the law we were still just temporary guardians. (more…)

Thankful for the Journey

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

Misty at The Family Math asked me to participate in her Thankfulness Thursday Series. I was more than happy to join her in continuing to focus on being Thankful. To be truthful I am struggling with focusing on the good in my life right now due to some blindsides that have come my way at work. (more…)

Jigsaw Puzzle

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

Our family is like a jigsaw puzzle. We are all different in our own ways, but somehow we all fit together to form a complete picture. In spite of our individual differences we somehow fit together to form a cohesive unit that is able to live, love, and work together. Not one piece of the puzzle is forced, every piece fits perfectly. (more…)

Day 19~ Adoption

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Not flesh of my flesh, Nor bone of my bone, but still miraculously my own. Never forget for a single minute, you didn’t grow under my heart but in it. – Fleur Conkling Heylinger

Today I am thankful for adoption. My life would not be what it is today without adoption. The process of adoption changed my life and my family. This process forced me to be patient and to wait on God’s timing. I guess I am a slow learner since I did not fully learn those lessons during our quest to have Caleb and infertility treatments.
