“$79,000 you have got to be kidding me” ~ Donna Lloyd upon reviewing a 2 day hospital bill.
Today I am thankful for medial insurance. Recently we have received several medical statements and bills related to David’s accident. I was floored by the high cost of medical care. His hospital bill alone was $79,000, not including the surgeon or anesthesiologist. A 6 mile ride in an ambulance cost us $1000. Having to pay a co-pay for physical therapy 3 to 5 times a week is going to get old, but at least it is manageable. When all is said and done the total cost of his care from this one accident could very well be in the $100,000 range.
It is easy to see how one major illness or accident could financially ruin a family. I am thankful that I have a job that offers medical insurance. While I think the premiums and copays (for office visits and prescriptions) are way too high, I am thankful to have insurance.
