God is Able

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Daniel 3:16- 18

Believing that God is able but also being willing to stay faithful even when he does not answer in the ways in which we would like is a quality of a true and faithful believer. This is the kind of faith that I want to display at all times no matter what is happening around me or to me.

I struggle with this at times. I wonder why God allows bad things to happen, and why he did not answer my prayers in the way that I desired to be answered. I will admit, I have turned my back on God because of my anger, fear, and disappointment. I guess you could say I was acting like a spoiled child by pitching a fit and pouting when I did not get my way. These actions show a lack of faith, and a lack of belief that God has everything under control.

I am trying to be more like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, it is hard and it is something that must be worked on each and everyday. As Christians we need to know that our God is able and we need to strive to be like these three young boys who never doubted God and never wavered in their faith.
